Neighborhood Groups at Lake Street Church
What are Neighborhood Groups?
Neighborhood Groups are small groups of 10-12 people that meet in people’s homes. Whenever possible, they are organized geographically so that you don’t have far to travel and can get to know other members of the community who live close to you.
Groups meet twice a month, and although they are led by trained co-facilitators, there are leadership roles for everyone. For example, the co-facilitators guide the group through the week’s agenda, while another group member hosts the meeting, and still others might provide snacks, or make follow-up contact with people who miss a meeting.
How do they work?
Each meeting is about 90 minutes long, and follows the same format each time:
- Arriving & settling in
- Bringing yourself into the circle
- Question of the Week (topic for discussion)
- Sharing of Joys & Concerns
- Closing prayer (drawn from the LSC Covenant)
Each group has its own style, and follows the format in different ways. However, by using the same format, each group is connected thematically and in spirit to all the other Neighborhood Groups, too.
Why should I make room for this in my busy schedule?
We offer these Neighborhood Groups in the hope that they become a form of spiritual practice for participants – places to slow down, connect, and reflect. We believe that your Neighborhood Group can be a place to foster a stronger sense of self, create opportunities for growth, and build a deeper sense of belonging within the larger church community.
We also envision these Neighborhood Groups as intentional communities within the broader community that is Lake Street Church. They aren’t therapy groups, or support groups, but a place to which you can regularly bring yourself and your questions to find welcome.
How do I join a Neighborhood Group?
We thought you'd never ask! You can join a group by filling out an online form, or contacting Associate Minister
Ann-Louise Haak via email or by calling her at the Church Office (847/864-2181, x112).
