Nicaragua Niño's Project
Nicaragua Service Trip
A trip for some of us . . . a journey for all of us

WHAT WILL WE BUILD?
First and foremost . . . relationships. Between individual LSC members, between LSC committees, between LSC and other faith organizations in and around Evanston, and finally between LSC and the children and families in the Fabretto program in Nicaragua.
WHERE WILL WE BE GOING?
To one of several Fabretto Children's Centers in Nicaragua. Fabretto's mission is to enable impoverished Nicaraguan children and their families in underserved communities to break the cycle of poverty and reach their full potential through programs promoting education, nutrition and health, and community development. For more than 50 years, Fabretto has build relationships within Nicaraguan urban and rural communities. They currently provide lunch to over 10,000 children, which is often their only meal of the day.
WHO CAN GO?
Anyone, as part of an intergenerational group of families and other adults, or (if we have enough kids 15 years or older) as a separate youth group.
WHEN?
Sometime in 2012
WHAT WILL IT COST?
Approximately $700 per person (includes lodging, internal transport, and food). Participants would also be responsible for their own airfare which is currently between $600 and $700. We plan to raise funds to defray some of the cost and make the trip affordable for anyone who would like to go. We will also provide sponsorship sheets (much like those you have for a walk-a-thon) to those who might like to reach out to friends and relatives asking for their support.
WHAT WILL WE DO WHEN WE GET THERE?
That depends on the project we select. Fabretto expects all volunteer groups to plan and fund a project to be completed during their visit. Some examples of projects others have done: built a soccer field, built a new classroom, planted a new garden, helped with a recycling effort. Once we select our project we will hold fundraisers to help pay for it.
WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE?
Start saving your money or getting yourself sponsored. Get a passport now, if you don't have one. If you do have a passport, make sure it will not expire within 6 months of our trip. You will need to check with your doctor to make sure all your shots are up to date.
