Yoga is an ancient system of meditation
and movement that enables us to unite with divinity by teaching
awareness, integrity, and compassion. Yoga
Tree of Evanston teaches lyengar Yoga, which is a method of instruction set
forth by living yoga master B.K.S. lyengar of India. Mr. lyengar
is the author of many classic texts, including Light on Yoga.
His teachings are deeply grounded in the ancient yoga tradition,
and his intense practice with over 65 years of teaching has produced
significant innovations.
Among the most noteworthy are:
- An emphasis on standing poses to correct alignment and resolve
structural imbalances.
- Use of props to enhance learning and modify poses for people
who have physical limitations.
- Proper sequencing of postures for general and therapeutic benefits.
Yoga Tree of Evanston meets in a fully equipped, state-of-the-art
yoga room on the 2nd floor of the Church House (Room #205). Eight
90-minute classes are offered each week, divided between two levels:
Beginning and Continuing. General Classes combine both levels. Meeting
