Lake Street Video Discussion Group
This summer, we will be viewing the Great Courses Series God against the Gods: The History of Monotheism and Polytheism, led by Emeritus Professor of the Classics, Robert Garland, of Colgate University.

In this course, we explore how religion manifests itself in the lives and minds of a richly diverse humanity over time and space. In particular, we explore the similarities and differences between monotheism and polytheism, how both have much to commend them—as well as much to deplore in how they have been interpreted by fanatics—and how they are intimately related, despite their apparent opposition. We will be investigating a subject that goes to the heart of human existence and our problematic relationship with something greater than ourselves. This is all part of the human search for meaning in a universe that provides no ready answers.
